As Celtic FC Foundation continue our spotlight series highlighting the partners who will benefit from your incredible generosity through the Christmas Appeal phase of our Football for Good Fund (FFGF), we turn our attention to a local beneficiary – the Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army, operating out of Parkhead, benefits from Christmas Appeal support both financially and through toys – which were donated at our annual festive extravaganza, Ghirls for Good, on Friday, November 26.

Tomorrow, on Giving Tuesday, the Salvation Army and 12 other beneficiaries will collect over 250 brand new toys and gifts, kindly donated by each amazing guest who attended the event at the weekend and these will be passed on to children who are sick or disadvantaged well ahead of Christmas Eve. Heartbreakingly, for some, it may be the only gift they receive this festive period.

Established in the 19th century, the Salvation Army is a worldwide organisation dedicated to alleviating hardship and empowering the impoverished. Through locations in Parkhead and Shettleston, the Salvation Army aims to provide support to some of the most vulnerable individuals living within these areas.

Recently supported with funding through our FFGF, Salvation Army Parkhead runs soup kitchens, foodbanks and drop-in services for those in unemployment, asylum seekers and former prisoners, amongst others and also provide support to those facing challenges with their mental health.

The Salvation Army’s Major Colin Bradshaw said: “The vital support from Celtic FC Foundation helps us to assist local people at their time of need in a direct and practical way. We currently have three foodbanks and two drop-ins so the support is essential.”

Much of the Salvation Army’s work goes on behind the scenes and, with your support, they can continue these vital efforts.

The Salvation Army joins Spirit Aid, Safe in Scotland, Glasgow City Mission, PEEK, St Roch’s FC Foundation, The Invisibles, Woman’s Aid in Dublin and Women’s Aid Belfast and Lisburn as the latest Appeal beneficiary to be confirmed.

Through the Appeal we want to give hundreds of families in our communities the Christmas they deserve, making sure there’s food on the table and gifts under the tree.

We also wish to help pensioners, women and children in refuge, the homeless community and refugees – as well as a whole host of others facing poverty and hardship.

Charity, and the generosity and compassion of the Celtic Family, will always be our past, present and future – it’s our heritage, our responsibility, our lifeblood.
