Glasgow Night Shelter donation from Celtic FC Foundation

WE continue our spotlight series on this year’s Christmas Appeal beneficiaries with a closer look at the work of another charity partner, Glasgow Night Shelter.

Glasgow Night Shelter was formed in 2011 with the aim of providing a warm, safe place to stay for destitute asylum seekers, many of whom are unable to access normal homeless services due to their immigration status.

Open 365 days a year, the charity offers a hot meal and somewhere to sleep for up to 15 men every night.

Glasgow Night Shelter is currently in the process of renovating a building which will be its new home in 2018 and will offer shelter to both homeless refugee men and women.

Phill Jones of Glasgow Night Shelter spoke of the charity’s gratitude at once again being named a beneficiary of our Christmas Appeal. He said: “The previous support from Celtic FC Foundation has been brilliant.

“Any donation received this year will partly be used to help towards developing the new premises but also for making sure that Christmas this year is a really good one for the guys who are staying here.

“I want to say a huge thank you to everyone involved.”

Glasgow Night Shelter is the 14th Christmas Appeal beneficiary to be confirmed along with the Wayside Club, Loaves and Fishes, The Invisibles, Salvation Army Parkhead, Glasgow City Mission, the Scottish Refugee Council, the Elpis Centre, Simon Community Scotland, Refuweegee, Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, St. Roch’s FC Foundation as well as two London-based beneficiaries, St. Anne’s Primary School and the Cardinal Hume Centre.

Our 2017 Christmas Appeal was launched at the end of October and reflects the very essence of why our club was set up back in 1887.

We want to help around 300 local families facing poverty, to provide a meal on the table and gifts for the kids. We want to bring the magic of Christmas to those homes. We are also looking to help vulnerable local pensioners to ease the financial burden at a challenging time of year, plus a number of other local charities who support those experiencing homelessness or other disadvantage.

But we can’t do this without you. So together, let’s Share the Spirit of Celtic this Christmas.
