Celts reach for the sky to support Stiliyan

A TOTAL of 19 daredevil Celtic staff and supporters took to the skies on Sunday, August 25, all in the name of charity.

They participated in the ‘Skydive for Stiliyan’ event at Skydive St Andrew’s in Glenrothes, Fife. The braveband each jumped from a plane at 10,000 feet and proudly completed a tandem skydive.

It was touch and go for aroundfive hours as the cloudy skies in Fife threatened to dampen the enthusiasm of the group and send them home disappointed.

However, the sun shone around 2pm and our first two participants took their places aboard the flight. The final pair completed their skydives at around 8pm and the whole party went home very happy and very proud.

The experience was different for each individual and emotions ranged from terror to exhilaration but, regardless of any fears, they all faced the challenge with great courage and determination.

Former Celtic midfielder Stiliyan Petrov announced his retirement from football in May 2013. He has been fighting a brave and courageous battle since being diagnosed with leukaemia in March 2012, and he is currently in remission from the disease.

To assist others, he is now in the process of setting up a charitable foundation to help address the issues involved when people receive a leukaemia diagnosis.

The net proceeds of this event will be collated by Celtic Charity and donated to Stiliyan’s nominated charity.
