Celtic FC Foundation helping Glasgow East Women’s Aid

CONTINUING our Christmas Appeal series, we now look at the work of another of Celtic FC Foundation€™s beneficiary charities: Glasgow East Women€™s Aid.

GEWA€™s aim is the eradication of all forms of abuse towards women, children and young people and the structures that perpetuate them. GEWA also provide a range of support services including one to one counselling, refuge and support.

Anne Kelly, Project Development Officer at GEWA said: €œGlasgow East Women€™s Aid provides practical and emotional support to families who live or have lived with the effects of domestic abuse.

€œDomestic abuse sadly never goes away and is ever present at Christmas every year. Therefore, we at GEWA endeavour to make it as special as it can be for our service users.

€œI want you to think about a family who have left behind all they own just to be safe, on a day to basis this is incredibly difficult. ; However, at Christmas this seems magnified to an even greater degree and the sense of loss is profound.

€œWith your help we can give families the comfort they truly deserve by ensuring they have the gifts, toys and the little extras we all take for granted at this time of the year. ;

€œBeing able to offer trips to a Pantomime, giving a party with Santa and filling sacks with gifts for the children can change their perception that perhaps the world is not an awful place after all.

€œAs you can see in the video, the money we receive from the Celtic Family plays a part in the long-term recovery of the most harmed families. So when you think your money only provides material comfort think again. The impact of the support you give also changes lives. ;

€œOn behalf of the staff, women, children and young people at GEWA we wish you all a peaceful Christmas.€

Please help us brighten up lives and reach our goal this Christmas.
