Celtic FC Foundation ensure refugees benefit from Jock Stein events

Celtic FC Foundation recently announced that its share of the proceeds from this weekend’s duo of Jock Stein 30th Anniversary events will be devoted to assisting those affected by the current refugee crisis.

We are now delighted to confirm that our international aid charity partner will be the British Red Cross in Glasgow and, in particular, its Europe Refugee Crisis Appeal.

Desperate families have no choice but to risk their lives to flee war and persecution. They urgently need our help.

Shocking images in the media recently show desperate scenes of families who have lost their loved ones. Families on a terrifying journey in search of safety. They need food, water and medical care.

The Europe Refugee Crisis Appeal will support refugees and communities affected by the crisis across Europe, in neighbouring countries and the UK.

Tony Hamilton, CEO of Celtic FC Foundation said: “The British Red Cross is working tirelessly to provide direct aid to refugees across Europe who are in desperate need of our support and it is an honour to partner with them on this occasion.

“The funds raised on Sunday will have a huge impact on the ground, exactly where it’s needed most.”

Interim UK Director for the Red Cross, David Miller, said: “People are arriving in Europe with very little – some with only a family photo and the clothes they left in.

“We are in the midst of one of the biggest humanitarian disasters of our time. Millions of people are being forced to risk their lives in a desperate search for safety as conflicts rage around the world.

“Celtic FC Foundation and their fans’ support will make a real difference to the refugees and communities affected across Europe and in neighbouring countries. Thank you for supporting the appeal.”
