FOLLOWING on from the phenomenal success of Celtic FC Foundation’s Christmas Appeal, the club’s charitable arm are delighted to announce details of our donation to Mary’s Meals.
After generating an unprecedented total of over £110,000, Celtic FC Foundation’s Christmas Appeal remit has been expanded to include an international context, as we help Mary’s Meals in Kenya, as well as War Child in Syria.
Working in 12 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, Mary’s Meals help to provide one good meal for children in a place of learning, where they can receive an education that could one day free them from poverty.
This donation follows on from Celtic FC Foundation’s previous partnership with Mary’s Meals in Malawi. In 2014, 21 Foundation volunteers journeyed to Blantyre, Malawi to offer practical support in the form of assistance with construction and renovation to Mary’s Meals under-6 centres. Celtic FC Foundation’s monetary support of Mary’s Meals will go towards feeding 500 children in Kenya for a year, in turn making a significant difference to tackling poverty and encouraging education.
Alan Brown, Executive Director of Mary’s Meals UK, said: “We are very grateful to Celtic FC Foundation for this very generous contribution to our school feeding programme in Kenya.
“The funds will be used to provide nutritious daily meals to 500 children every day they attend school during 2016. By providing these meals, Celtic FC Foundation is enabling Mary’s Meals to help children escape from the streets of Kenya and gain an education that can lift them out of poverty in future.
“Celtic Football Club and its Foundation have provided great support to Mary’s Meals over the years and this latest kind gift will enable truly impoverished children to work towards a brighter future. Thank you.”
Tony Hamilton, Celtic FC Foundation CEO, said: “A key priority for Celtic FC Foundation is to continually create opportunities as well as a determination to help as many people as we can.
“The Foundation’s support of Mary’s Meals and our strong working relationship with them reflects this idea and affirms our fundamental commitment to making a difference at home and abroad.
“Of course, none of this would be possible without the unrivalled and immense generosity from the Celtic support, and once again, I’d like to express my sincere gratitude to them for following the Celtic way this Christmas and helping us give back.”
