Saturday afternoon saw over 4000 Celtic supporters travel to Liverpool to witness a host of fan favourites take on Liverpool Legends at Anfield.
Former Celtic Captain, Paul Lambert took charge of the team from the dugout, assisted by another former Captain and current Club Ambassador, Tom Boyd. They were also be joined by Foundation supporter, Ellen Flanagan, who was the winning bidder at our recent Annual Sporting Dinner, for the chance to assist Paul and Tom during the match.
Stiliyan Petrov captained the Celts, with the likes of Mikael Lustig, Joe Ledley, Emilio Izaguirre and Harald Brattbakk just some of the other names who proudly pulled on the Hoops once again.
Despite the Bhoys having had a number of good spells of play throughout the match, it was the hosts who came away with a 2-0 victory, thanks to a first-half penalty and a goal early into the second-half.
Charity, however, was the real winner on the day. 100% of the match proceeds have been committed to good causes and beneficiaries include Celtic FC Foundation, Forever Reds (the official LFC former players’ association which, among other things, provides support to the club’s former players in need of care) and a range of programmes delivered by LFC Foundation and their partner organisations including schools, inclusive sports, social action, health and wellbeing and food poverty.
Supporters now have a chance to own a wonderful piece of memorabilia from this special occasion, while further supporting Celtic FC Foundation, as the signed match worn shirts from the game are being auctioned via the Club’s official shirt auction partner, MatchWornShirt HERE. The auction will close at 2pm on Saturday, April 1.
The available shirts are:
Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink
In addition, the auction also includes three shirts which were signed by the entire Celtic squad, as well and Manager, Paul Lambert and Assistant Tom Boyd.
Net proceeds from the auction will be devoted to Celtic FC Foundation’s work assisting the most vulnerable within our communities, as we challenge poverty and promote inclusion.
Thank you for your wonderful support.
