Road to Milan Cycle in support of Celtic FC Foundation set to begin this weekend

A team of 17 cyclists will set off tomorrow, as they prepare to take on an extraordinary seven-day journey through the Alps. They will cycle more than 500 miles and climb an incredible 40,000 feet from Basel to Milan in aid of Celtic FC Foundation, in a challenge which holds special significance for Celtic supporters.

On Saturday, June 13 the group will depart from St. Jakob-Park, home of FC Basel in Switzerland. They will then journey through the Alps facing some of the toughest terrain Europe has to offer, before arriving at Milan’s iconic San Siro Stadium on Friday, June 19. St. Jakob-Park was the venue for Celtic’s first European Cup match of the 1969-70 campaign, a memorable journey that ultimately led to the European Cup Final at the San Siro against Feyenoord.

For several members of the team, this latest adventure completes a remarkable trilogy. Having previously cycled to Lisbon and Seville – the other cities where Celtic contested European finals – this Basel to Milan cycle marks the final chapter in a series of fundraising challenges undertaken for Celtic FC Foundation.

The riders are united not only by their support for Celtic but also by a shared commitment to the Foundation’s work. Thus far, they have raised a phenomenal total in excess of £46,000 and these funds will help support our Paradise Recovery Café project, amongst other initiatives that offer vital assistance to those most in need. In partnership with Sisco, the Recovery Café provides crucial support at Celtic Park every week to individuals facing challenges such as substance use, mental health struggles, trauma and homelessness.

When the cyclists depart Basel on Saturday morning, they do so carrying the hopes and encouragement of supporters from across the Celtic family. Bound by a belief in continuing the charitable legacy of Brother Walfrid, they will tackle every climb and descent knowing that their efforts will help transform lives.
