Paul Muldoon Takes on Virtual Road to Milan Challenge

Unable to join his fellow cyclists on the road earlier this year due to health reasons, Celtic FC Foundation supporter Paul Muldoon has found another way to complete the Road to Milan challenge – cycling virtually from Glasgow to Milan in support of the Foundation.

Using his bike and smartwatch at home, Paul is undertaking an incredible 1,050-mile journey to the iconic San Siro, replicating the route to the stadium where Celtic contested the 1970 European Cup Final against Feyenoord.

The virtual challenge, known as Mouldy Goes to Milan, will see Paul climb the equivalent of 123,909 feet as he works towards reaching Milan by the end of October.

Earlier this year, a team of cyclists completed their own Road to Milan journey, travelling almost 500 miles from Basel over seven days and climbing more than 36,000 feet along the way.

The journey marked the third chapter in a remarkable fundraising trilogy, following previous cycles to Lisbon and Seville.

Paul has been involved in all three, having previously completed the Road to Lisbon and taken part virtually in the Road to Seville. Keen to remain involved in the latest chapter, he adapted the task to allow him to continue pursuing his goal and raising funds despite the health difficulties that prevented him from joining the team in person.

His determination demonstrates how challenges can be approached in different ways when circumstances change, allowing people to continue working towards personal goals while making a positive difference to others.

Paul is already well on his way to completing the journey, with every mile bringing him closer to the San Siro and helping to raise much-needed funds for Celtic FC Foundation.

The Road to Milan team have already raised a stunning total of almost £60K, with funds dedicated to helping sustain and grow the Foundation’s Paradise Recovery Café. The initiative provides a welcoming environment for people experiencing substance use, mental health difficulties, trauma and homelessness, offering a warm meal, peer support and pathways into recovery.

Celtic FC Foundation are incredibly appreciative of Paul and the entire Road to Milan team for their continued support, commitment and fundraising efforts. Their generosity will help make a meaningful difference to people in our communities.
