Group Sets Off for the Sahara Desert in Support of Celtic FC Foundation

Today, a group of 13 brave Foundation fundraisers – which includes former Celts, Tom Boyd and Simon Donnelly, as well as a member of the Foundation team – have embarked on the experience of a lifetime, as they set off for our first ever ‘Celts in the Sahara’ challenge, sponsored by MDH Recruitment.

The group departed Glasgow in the early hours of this morning to make their way to Morocco, where they will spend the next six days. Arriving in Marrakech this evening, they will receive a detailed briefing session to ensure that everyone stays safe on the trek. Tomorrow, they will then transfer to Ouarzazate – known as ‘the door to the desert’ – in preparation for the beginning of their challenge on Saturday afternoon.

Led by local guides and an experienced team, the trek itself will take place over four days and will consist of a total of 32km, as the group tackles the unique challenges of the Sahara’s incredible desert landscape. The hardy participants will face a variety of sand dunes throughout their journey, including the famous Chigaga Dunes, which reach 100m in height.

The group has so far raised a phenomenal net total in excess of £30K, with fundraising still ongoing. If you’d like to support their efforts, you can make a donation HERE.

We thank each and every one of these wonderful supporters for their amazing dedication to Celtic FC Foundation and wish them all the very best, on what promises to be a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience.
