Foundation Christmas Appeal Spotlight: Help the Homeless Glasgow

Celtic FC Foundation’s spotlight series on this year’s Christmas Appeal beneficiary organisations continues today, as we highlight the crucial work of local community group Help the Homeless Glasgow.

The organisation focuses on giving food and essentials to the homeless, vulnerable groups, the elderly and those who are struggling financially.

COVID-19 has had a profound impact on the group’s services, as they have been unable to provide their usual pop-up kitchen services in the city centre. Despite this, volunteers have continued to cook and deliver meals to some of the most vulnerable people across Glasgow and the West over the past eight months.

Speaking of the changing landscape for Glasgow’s homeless community, Julie Duncan of Help the Homeless Glasgow, said: “The people we support are living in temporary accommodation and either do not have or cannot access cooking facilities because of the restrictions.

‘Thanks to a previous donation from Celtic FC Foundation, we were able to cater for those needs and take meals out to people in those accommodations. It was crucial for us to know that that funding was there.’

With your support, we hope to provide assistance to those most in need this Christmas and Julie further emphasised the importance of your donations, adding: “Winter is always a challenging time for people on the streets, but this year is particularly challenging.

“We don’t know how long these temporary accommodations are going to last so it’s about adapting our services and support to those people. Celtic FC Foundation have done a huge amount of good things for our volunteer group this year and we can’t thank them enough for their support.”

Through our Appeal we want to help hundreds of local families, giving them the kind of Christmas most of us take for granted. With lots of food on the table and gifts for the kids. Making sure Santa pays a visit on Christmas Eve, despite COVID-19.

We also want to support pensioners on our doorstep, by lending a hand at a difficult time of year. Local charities need our help too. We can make a massive difference to the lives of children, refugees, the homeless and those living in refuge.
