Foundation and Islamic Relief UK help feed 600 individuals and families

Celtic FC Foundation worked alongside Islamic Relief UK for the fourth year running to help feed hundreds of vulnerable individuals and families in Glasgow.

Foundation and Islamic Relief staff and volunteers spent two days packing 300 essential food packages at the Gateway Church in Dalmarnock, distributing these to local schools across the city.

The packs contained items such as tinned vegetables, tinned soup, cereal and biscuits, alongside a £15 ASDA voucher.

The Foundation has a close relationship with Islamic Relief UK, and both organisations are committed to helping local families who are struggling financially due to the rising cost of living.

Tony Hamilton, Celtic FC Foundation Chief Executive, said: “Islamic Relief UK have been a great partner of ours for a number of years now, and we are incredibly pleased to work alongside them once again with this latest initiative.

“We’re very grateful to them and to our partners at the Gateway Church and the volunteers who have given up their own time to pack bags and distribute food.”

Nadeem Baqir, Scotland Regional Manager, Islamic Relief UK said: “Winter is often the hardest time of the year for vulnerable people in society, but now with the cost-of-living crisis so brutally affecting many across the country, this time of the year has grown colder still.

“Even more people have been pushed into vulnerability and those already there pushed deeper into poverty. Many families now must choose between food and fuel, not being able to afford to keep their children both warm and fed.

“But despite this, hope is not frozen, and thanks to the amazing generosity of our community who still give what they can, even in the hardest of times when money is scarce, the days seem to be getting brighter.

“It’s only thanks to the community’s brilliant response and our amazing partners like Celtic FC Foundation that we’re able to launch this winter food drive to bring food to struggling families.”
