Foundation and Islamic Relief UK help feed 1000 individuals and families

Celtic FC Foundation have partnered up with Islamic Relief UK once again to help feed around 1,000 vulnerable individuals and families across Scotland.

Foundation staff and volunteers worked with Islamic Relief UK at the Gateway Church in Dalmarnock for two days to help pack and distribute 500 essential food packages to 11 schools and four charitable organisations.

Representatives from Celtic’s FC Women including Manager Fran Alonso, and first team players Kit Loferski, Caitlin Hayes, Murphy Agnew, Colette Cavanagh, Paula Partido, Luana Muñoz and Chloe Craig were also on hand to support the Food Drive and deliver the food packs to St Michael’s and Dalmarnock Primary Schools.

The packs contained various items including tinned vegetables, tinned soup, cereal and biscuits, alongside a £15 ASDA voucher.

Both organisations recognise that many people are currently going through challenging times as the ongoing cost of living crisis continues to put a strain on household budgets across the country.

The Foundation has a close relationship with Islamic Relief UK, and it is the third year running that the two organisations have worked together, most recently distributing 100 gifts to families in poverty over the Muslim holiday of Eid.

Tony Hamilton, Celtic FC Foundation Chief Executive, said: “We managed to do this in March, thanks to Islamic Relief UK, and we’re delighted we can do it again.

“The need, however, is greater than what we are doing and ideally we want to find ways to do much more of this across all of our communities.”

Tufail Hussain, Director of Islamic Relief UK added: “We were proud to have worked with Celtic FC Foundation who are doing amazing work providing for their local communities.

“The summer holidays should be a time of enjoyment and relaxation for young people, instead they are having to deal with hunger and the stress it causes themselves and their parents.

“The cost-of-living crisis in the UK is continuing to wreak havoc on families as many go hungry and are unable to pay their bills. This should simply not be the case in the UK.”
