Football for Good Fund Beneficiary: PEEK

Celtic FC Foundation’s Football for Good Fund beneficiary series continues today, as our attention turns to PEEK, who have been given a £5,000 donation to support their work.

PEEK, a children’s charity based in the East End of Glasgow, operate across the city. The organisation supports children, young people and families impacted by poverty through play, creative arts and community development projects.

They recently launched their own mobile food truck – PEEKACHEW – which is helping provide hot healthy meals to those most in need during the current coronavirus crisis and the Football for Good Fund donation has been allocated to this element of their work.

The charity have also supported those who are isolated in their communities with emergency fuel top-ups, delivered over 300 health and wellbeing packages and provided support and guidance to families trying to navigate the benefits system.

Michaela Collins of PEEK explained just how invaluable the support received from Celtic FC Foundation has been, saying: “Due to COVID-19, we have had to stop all of our frontline delivery.

“However, food has always been a key part of what PEEK do, either through breakfast clubs, school holiday programmes or cooking workshops with children and families, so we have been in a fortunate position to change our operational model quickly to adapt to the needs and demands of the community.

“The donation from Celtic FC Foundation has allowed us to further upscale the meal production and allow us to support families who are self-isolating and who don’t have any other family or community support.

“Through the funds received – we can all play a part in reducing the community transmission of COVID-19 and hopefully reduce the severity of the impact on some of our most vulnerable citizens of Glasgow. A huge thank you to everyone at Celtic FC Foundation for their support.”

PEEK joins a host of organisations already confirmed as Football for Good Fund beneficiaries, including Glasgow’s Golden Generation (for the elderly), FARE Scotland, Glasgow North-East Foodbank, Birth, Baby and Beyond, and NHS frontline staff at the Royal Infirmary in Glasgow.
