Celtic FC Foundation Celebrates World Down Syndrome Day 2026

Celtic FC Foundation proudly marked World Down Syndrome Day (March 21) by celebrating the incredible participants involved in its Ability Counts project, highlighting the power of inclusion through football and physical activity.

As part of this year’s celebrations, participants, coaches and colleagues came together in support of the global Odd Socks campaign, wearing colourful, mismatched socks to spark conversation, promote acceptance and celebrate individuality.

Ability Counts provides inclusive physical activity sessions for children and people with Down Syndrome and additional support needs, creating a safe and welcoming environment where participants can build confidence, develop skills and form lasting friendships.

Delivered in Glasgow since 2011, the project continues to make a meaningful impact both on and off the pitch.

Beyond Scotland, Celtic FC Foundation’s Ability Counts Ireland project supports over 100 young people across Sligo, Derry and Donegal, extending opportunities for participation and inclusion.

This week’s activities were filled with energy, smiles and a strong sense of community, as everyone involved embraced the spirit of World Down Syndrome Day and the message behind the Odd Socks campaign.

Through Ability Counts, Celtic FC Foundation remains committed to ensuring that sport and physical activity are accessible to all, providing a positive and inclusive space where every participant can thrive.

Donna-Marie Henry, Head of Celtic FC Foundation, said:

“Through Ability Counts, we see the power of inclusion in action every single week. It’s about making sure no one is left out, and creating opportunities for those who might otherwise be excluded. We’re incredibly proud to provide a space where everyone feels they belong – where confidence grows, friendships are formed and every individual has the chance to thrive. That sense of joy and support is what this project is all about.”
