[Ella is undertaking a 1000 mile trek from Sweden to Scotland from August 25 – October 16, fundraising for Celtic FC Foundation]
Written by Ella Stensdotter.
I’ve now walked 214 km / 133 miles since leaving Helsingborg and, on Monday, August 31, I crossed into Germany.
Life has become very small, in the best possible sense. Most days are basically feet, Google Maps, food and finding somewhere to sleep. I don’t think I’ve ever slept this deeply or felt this free.
My body has surprised me more than anything. I expected about ten blisters by now and I have one. I expected shin splints and haven’t had any. My feet, knees and even my face have been swollen at times, but I’m fascinated by how quickly the body adapts when you ask this much of it.
I’m learning as I go, including what not to do. One day turned into 56 km, because I hadn’t planned where I was sleeping properly. Lesson learned: plan ahead, listen to the body and take recovery seriously!
One of my favourite things so far has been the people I’ve met along the way. Those kind encounters have meant so much. I’ve also been telling people along the way about Celtic and the Foundation. Most have no connection to Celtic at all, but they listen, ask questions and some have even donated after hearing what the Foundation stands for. I think that says something very special about Celtic.
Next, I’ll journey west through Northern Germany.
Thank you to those who have donated so far and shared my challenge. You can also get behind my fundraising efforts by donating HERE. Your support will go a long way in helping the Foundation to support those who need it most.
Or if you’d like to help support my journey in any other way please feel free to contact the Foundation directly at [email protected] and they’ll put us in touch. Thanks once again.
