CELTIC FC FOUNDATION’S CHRISTMAS APPEAL SERIES: THE SALVATION ARMY

Following the phenomenal generosity of supporters at Saturday’s annual Christmas Appeal bucket collection, Celtic FC Foundation’s spotlight series continues as attention turns to poverty and homelessness charity, The Salvation Army.

Established in the 19th century, The Salvation Army began as a benevolent charitable organisation dedicated to alleviating hardship and empowering the impoverished.

This year, donations from Celtic FC Foundation’s Christmas Appeal will go towards the charity’s homelessness unit in Parkhead, directly benefitting the most vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals in the local community.

On Celtic FC Foundation’s contribution, The Salvation Army’s Major Gordon Atter, said: “This Christmas, with Celtic FC Foundation’s help, we will be able to provide families with toys and food parcels enabling us to put smiles on the faces of children.

“We have also provided a Christmas party for our parents and toddlers, with each child receiving a present. Also, on December 25, kind donations from Celtic supporters will ensure that 50 people in need will receive a full Christmas Dinner.”

The Salvation Army are just one of the groups we will be supporting through this year’s Christmas Appeal and those confirmed so far include Glasgow Night Shelter, Spirit Aid, The Elpis Centre, Loaves and Fishes, Glasgow City Mission, the Scottish Refugee Council, the Wayside Centre, Glasgow East Women’s Aid, The Invisibles and Simon Community Scotland.

In addition, we want to help around 300+ local families facing poverty, to provide a meal on the table and gifts for the kids. We want to bring the magic of Christmas to those homes. We are also looking to help vulnerable local pensioners to ease the financial burden at a challenging time of year.

For the first time, we are proud to confirm a development of the Christmas Appeal in 2016 as we look to support charities in London, Newcastle, Dublin, Belfast, Oban, Greenock, Inverness, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Fife and Ayrshire.

The generosity and compassion of the Celtic Family is unsurpassed, and Celtic FC Foundation is requesting your support once again for an initiative which proudly follows in the footsteps of Brother Walfrid, providing comfort to those who need it most.

So together, let’s raise more than the roof this Christmas.
