AS the festive period draws to a climax, Celtic FC Foundation’s Christmas Appeal spotlight series concludes with a look at one of our final beneficiaries, St. Roch’s FC Foundation.
A local junior outfit with historical ties to Celtic, St. Roch’s Football Club is a renowned East End institution, with their most celebrated figure none other than Hoops legend and all-time record goalscorer, Jimmy McGrory.
Based at Jimmy McGrory Park in the North East of Glasgow, St. Roch’s FC Foundation is the charitable arm of the team commonly known as ‘The Candy Rock’, and for the second consecutive year, their Foundation is hosting a Christmas lunch for local pensioners, as well as individuals affected by homelessness or experiencing extreme poverty.
Speaking about the 2016 Christmas Appeal donation, St. Roch’s FC Committee Member Stephen Mullen, said: “It was a tremendous day last year, and we want to achieve the same this time around with the help of Celtic FC Foundation. We provide people affected by homelessness – as well as pensioners – with a festive fish supper and great entertainment.
“St. Roch’s are proud to be able to make this small gesture but it’s only possible with the help of Celtic FC Foundation.”
St. Roch’s FC Foundation are just one of the groups we will be supporting through this year’s Christmas Appeal, and those confirmed so far include The Salvation Army, Glasgow Night Shelter, Spirit Aid, The Elpis Centre, Loaves and Fishes, Glasgow City Mission, the Scottish Refugee Council, the Wayside Centre, Glasgow East Women’s Aid, The Invisibles and Simon Community Scotland.
In addition, we want to help over 300 local families facing poverty, to provide a meal on the table and gifts for the kids. We want to bring the magic of Christmas to those homes. We are also looking to help vulnerable local pensioners to ease the financial burden at a challenging time of year.
For the first time, we are proud to confirm a development of the Christmas Appeal in 2016 as we look to support charities in London, Newcastle, Dublin, Belfast, Oban, Greenock, Inverness, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Fife and Ayrshire.
The generosity and compassion of the Celtic Family is unsurpassed, and Celtic FC Foundation is requesting your support once again for an initiative which proudly follows in the footsteps of Brother Walfrid, providing comfort to those who need it most.
