Teams can now enter the 1888 Charity Shield 2015

CELTIC FC Foundation are delighted to launch the 2015 1888 Charity Shield. Sponsored by ACE Refrigeration for the third year in a row, this seven-a-side tournament will take place at Celtic’s prestigious Lennoxtown Training Centre on Sunday, May 31.

The tournament will run Champions League style, with teams being split into round-robin qualifying groups and then the top eight moving on to the knockout rounds.

The victorious squad of 10 will not only be presented with the Shield and medals on the day of the tournament, but will also receive a fantastic matchday experience at Celtic Park for an SPFL match (date TBC), including official presentation of the 1888 Charity Shield at half-time.

Across 2013 and 2014, a magnificent total of £43,000 was raised to support delivery of a wonderful partnership between Celtic FC Foundation and Scottish Disability Sport.

As a result, the fantastic support has helped develop:

·        Judo

·        Boccia

·        Football

·        Wheelchair Basketball

·        2014 SDS Summer Sports Camp

·        Education & Training programme Disability Inclusion Training (DIT)

·        2014 Parasport Pathway Festival

The 2015 1888 Charity Shield will support an extension and enhancement of this partnership through our new ‘Inspiring Sport’ project. It will provide physical activity in sport for young people with severe and complex disabilities.

Also, working closely with all 13 Scottish Disability Sport branches across Scotland, it will establish a series of pan-disability events and programmes with a focus on severe impairments.

The project will build capacity through education and training for coaches and volunteers, provide suitable training kit and equipment and deliver new and increased activities and events to more participants across Scotland.

Tony Hamilton, Celtic FC Foundation CEO said: “ACE Refrigeration have very kindly backed us again with sponsorship and I am very grateful to them for their continued support.

“They believe in our outcomes and they can see that we are genuinely making a difference to a lot of people’s lives.

“I’m grateful too to all who will participate in what has historically been a competitive but fun Celtic day.

“This event has been a cracking day out in previous years and I’m very confident that it will be just as good if not better at Lennoxtown in 2015.

“Thanks finally to Celtic Football Club for facilitating yet another of our events from a very busy fundraising calendar.”

Shane McKenzie of sponsor ACE Refrigeration added: “It’s been a pleasure to be associated with such a good cause, and one that I know touches the hearts of the players that enter the tournament.”

The cost to enter a squad of 10 players into this year’s 1888 Charity Shield is £1,000.  Places are limited and will be offered on first come, first served basis.
