From Sweden to Paradise: Ella completes incredible walk for Celtic FC Foundation

After 53 days on the road, Celtic supporter Ella Stensdotter has completed an extraordinary 1,000-mile journey from Sweden to Celtic Park, raising vital funds for Celtic FC Foundation.

On August 25, Ella set off from Helsingborg, Sweden, beginning her journey at the statue of Celtic legend Henrik Larsson, with the Brother Walfrid statue at Celtic Park firmly in her sights.

On Friday, October 16, after travelling across Europe and walking over 1,000 miles, she arrived at Paradise, bringing an incredible personal and fundraising journey to a close.

Her route took her through Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands, before crossing to England and continuing north into Scotland. Often covering over 20 miles a day, with very few rest days, Ella showed remarkable perseverance in reaching her goal.

But this was about much more than the distance. Behind every step was a deeply personal story and a desire to give back to a Club that means so much to her.

A journey with a personal purpose

Ella’s decision to take on the challenge followed a difficult period of serious illness and hospitalisation. As she worked to rebuild her confidence and recover, walking became an important part of her journey, helping her regain a sense of control and discover what she was capable of.

Determined to turn her experience into something positive for others, Ella decided to walk from Sweden to Glasgow in support of Celtic FC Foundation, raising funds to help those who are vulnerable.

Although Ella did not grow up supporting Celtic, her connection with the Club developed as she got older. Having been familiar with the Hoops during Henrik Larsson’s time at Celtic, her bond with the Club grew stronger when she moved to Glasgow for University.

Since then, she has continued to make trips from Sweden to follow the team whenever possible. This challenge offered a unique opportunity to celebrate that connection while supporting the Foundation’s charitable work.

One step at a time

Walking almost 1,000 miles over 53 days was never going to be easy. Ella faced physical and mental challenges throughout the journey, speaking in her updates about painful blisters, swollen feet, exhaustion and the difficulties of keeping herself rested and nourished.

Cold and wet conditions, unfamiliar routes and long days on foot added to the challenge. On one particularly demanding day, she covered 56 kilometres – around 35 miles – after misjudging the distance to her overnight stop.

Despite these testing times, Ella kept moving towards her goal, sharing her progress with those following her journey and drawing encouragement from the support and generosity of people she met along the way.

Her determination to keep going, even when things became difficult, made the achievement all the more remarkable.

Arriving at Paradise

Reaching Celtic Park marked the culmination of weeks of perseverance, personal growth and an extraordinary commitment to helping others.

Completing her journey at the statue of Brother Walfrid was particularly fitting. His founding principles continue to inspire Celtic FC Foundation’s work, helping children, young people and adults facing poverty and exclusion.

Through her challenge, Ella has demonstrated how a personal connection with Celtic can inspire something truly meaningful, turning her own experiences into an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others.

Ella has already raised a phenomenal total in excess of £13K for the Foundation and there’s still time to support her efforts HERE.

Jane Maguire, Head of Celtic FC Foundation, said: “Everyone at Celtic FC Foundation would like to offer Ella our heartfelt thanks and congratulations on this incredible achievement.

“Walking almost 1,000 miles across Europe is a remarkable feat in itself, but to take on such a challenge following a difficult period in her own life, all in the hope of helping others, makes her efforts even more special.

“Ella should be immensely proud of what she has accomplished. For every mile walked, every challenge overcome, and every penny raised – thank you, from the bottom of our hearts. This will make a significant difference to the lives of those we support through our project delivery.

“We are incredibly grateful for Ella’s commitment to Celtic FC Foundation and proud to have been part of her inspirational journey from Sweden to Paradise.”
