ON the same day that Celtic so emphatically ran out 6-0 winners against Dundee at Celtic Park, Andy Murray took Team GB through to a first Davis Cup final since 1978 with victory over Australia’s Bernard Tomic across the road at the Emirates Arena.
The British No.1 triumphed in three sets, 7-5, 6-3, 6-2 and Team GB will now face Belgium in the Davis Cup final in November.
And to round off a perfect sporting day, the signed hoops shirt so generously donated by Andy Murray during his recent visit to Paradise, raised a magnificent £7,000 for Celtic FC Foundation.
All funds will be devoted to assisting those affected by the current refugee crisis through Celtic FC Foundation’s partnership with the British Red Cross in Glasgow and, in particular, its Europe Refugee Crisis Appeal.
Desperate families have no choice but to risk their lives to flee war and persecution. They urgently need food, water and medical care.
The Europe Refugee Crisis Appeal will support refugees and communities affected by the crisis across Europe, in neighbouring countries and the UK.

“His willingness to support our efforts around the refugee crisis can never be underestimated and we are so grateful for his fantastic contribution.
“I would also like to thank all of those who played their part by bidding on the shirt and, particularly, the eventual winner who paid a magnificent £7,000 to secure a piece of unique sporting memorabilia.”
Andy Murray recently reinforced his support for those assisting refugees, as he pledged to donate £50 for every ace he hits in the rest of the tennis season to Unicef, to help children affected by the refugee crisis.
