THE Football for Good Fund beneficiary series continues today, as our attention turns to Geeza Break, a charity based in the East End of Glasgow who have been given a £10,000 donation to support their work.
The organisation was founded in 1992 and provides intensive family support and respite services to parents with children aged 0-16 years. The service is intended to be a short-term flexible support to families experiencing addiction, stress, crisis or isolation.
Geeza Break is also registered as a short-term fostering service and delivers a city wide service to kinship carers. They also support kinship children with their Geeza Chance programme, which takes place over 11 weeks at Wiston Lodge.
In recent times, Geeza Break have focused on supporting families in need by delivering food parcels, whilst also providing emotional support, parenting support and advice.
Julie Imeson, Operations Manager at Geeza Break, said: “Food has been the main worry for a lot of our clients and we’ve seen an increase in their mental health problems over the past few weeks and months.
“Thanks to the support provided by the Foundation, we were able to offer nutritious food to our families in a time of great need and uncertainty. We have also communicated with our families through letters and phone calls to inform and reassure that we are still here to support them.
“Over the years Celtic FC Foundation has been an avid supporter of Geeza Break as a local charity. So we very much appreciate the outstanding financial support during this time, which has been a true gesture of generosity. Thank you again from everyone at Geeza Break.”
Geeza Break joins a host of organisations already confirmed as Football for Good Fund beneficiaries, including Glasgow’s Golden Generation (for the elderly), FARE Scotland, Eric Liddell Centre, Glasgow North-East Foodbank, Birth, Baby and Beyond, and NHS frontline staff at the Royal Infirmary in Glasgow.
