AS the countdown to Christmas continues, we once again turn our attention to the organisations that will benefit from funds raised through this year’s Celtic FC Foundation Christmas Appeal.
Possibilities for Each and Every Kid (PEEK) is the next organisation to feature in our spotlight series. PEEK is a children’s charity based in the East End of Glasgow, which operates within over 40 communities across the city.
Each year, the organisation supports over 5,000 children and young people up to the age of 25 years-old – as well as families who are impacted by poverty – through its play, creative arts, volunteering and leadership programmes.
Every Christmas, PEEK launches its #winterwarmer appeal, which is a campaign to provide brand new jackets and wellies to children and young people, with a belief that every child, regardless of their background, should be able to play outdoors all year round.
PEEK also delivers free festive events, such as family Christmas meals, pop-up cinema events and pantomime trips.
Support received from Celtic FC Foundation will help towards the campaign, as well as provide brand new school uniforms, toys and gift vouchers for children and young people.
PEEK CEO, Michaela Collins spoke of the support received, saying: “Christmas can be a really challenging time for our families, so we do what we can to help create some nice memories, which will last a lifetime.
“Any donation received will help us to reach even more children and young people this Christmas and to ensure that they have something warm to wear, a present to open and food in their belly over the Christmas period.
“Thanks to Celtic FC Foundation and its supporters, so many children and young people will not wake up disappointed on Christmas day. They won’t feel embarrassed or ashamed because they don’t have anything new to wear or a Christmas dinner to eat. Each person who has donated to the Foundation’s Appeal has made Christmas that little bit better this year for thousands of kids. Thank you.”
PEEK is just one of the many organisations who will benefit from your generosity this Christmas, joining Loaves and Fishes, The Invisibles, Glasgow East Women’s Aid, St Roch’s FC Foundation, Elpis Centre, the Salvation Army Parkhead, St Anne’s Primary School, St Anne’s Church, the Cardinal Hume Centre, Simon Community Scotland, Spirit Aid, Glasgow Night Shelter, Women’s Aid Dublin, Women’s Aid Belfast and Lisburn, Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, Scottish Refugee Council, Glasgow’s No.1 Baby and Family Support Service and The Wayside Club, as the Appeal beneficiaries announced so far.
Our Appeal aims to honour the founding principles set out when the club was formed back in 1887, by continuing to help those in our community, who are most in need. We want to help hundreds of local families facing poverty, by giving them the kind of Christmas most of us take for granted.
We also want to support pensioners on our doorstep and help out local charities. We can make a massive difference to the lives of children, the homeless, refugees and those living in refuge or facing other challenges.
