CELTIC FC Foundation, the charitable arm of the football club, is delighted to launch its 2016 Christmas Appeal to honour our founding principles and help those in our community who are most in need.
The club has kicked off the Appeal with a fantastic £10,000 donation as we aim to help a range of excellent causes.
Through the campaign around 250 local families facing poverty this Christmas will be supported, as we aim to provide a meal on the table and gifts for the kids. We want to bring the magic of Christmas to those homes, something they would not otherwise experience.
We are also looking to help vulnerable local pensioners to ease the financial burden at a challenging time of year plus a host of other local charities who support those experiencing homelessness or other disadvantage.
The generosity and compassion of the Celtic Family is unsurpassed, and Celtic FC Foundation is requesting the support of Celtic fans once again for an Appeal which proudly follows in the footsteps of Brother Walfrid, providing comfort to those on our doorstep.
This year’s Appeal will see the introduction of a brand new element, the Founding Fathers’ Fast.
On Sunday, November 6 – the anniversary of the club’s formation – we are asking supporters to fast for the day in honour of our charitable heritage and donate what you would have spent on food – suggested £5 – to our Christmas Appeal. Please give up food for just one day so that someone facing hardship can have a meal on the table this Christmas.
As well as encouraging donations, Celtic FC Foundation will also be hosting three fundraising events as part of the Appeal – the Celtic Sleep Out on Saturday, November 12, our Ghirls for Good ladies party on Saturday, December 3 and a matchday bucket collection at the Dundee match on Saturday, December 17.
Peter Lawwell, Celtic’s Chief Executive said: “The club is delighted to kick-off this year’s charity appeal with another significant donation and, as in previous years, we will aim to do all we can to provide support and care this Christmas for people who are in need.
“Celtic’s origins ensure we are a club like no other and I am proud that today almost 130 years after the club’s formation, we continue to honour our charitable beginnings.
“Those organisations and individuals we help are extremely deserving of our support and we hope as many people as possible connected to the club will join us in this year’s appeal and be part of this very important work.”
Celtic FC Foundation CEO, Tony Hamilton, added: “Our Christmas Appeal sits at the very heart of the club’s proud charitable history – helping those on our doorstep who are facing poverty and hardship.
“Christmas is a particularly challenging time of year, for parents, children and those who are separated from their loved ones.
“Our Appeals in the past have received outstanding and humbling support from the whole Celtic Family and we are very grateful that the football club has kicked off this year’s Christmas Appeal with a magnificent donation.
“I have no doubt that our supporters will get behind this initiative in the fantastic manner they always do and I thank each and every one of them in advance for following in the footsteps of Brother Walfrid.
“I hope that, together, we can raise more than the roof this Christmas and provide love and comfort to those in our communities who need it most.”
