AS we reflect upon the 130th anniversary of our club, supporters throughout the world have been completing the Hail Hail Trail, by walking 130 miles over a six-week period, in honour of our charitable history.
The Hail Hail Trail has seen fans from across the UK and Ireland, USA, Australia, Spain, Portugal and Cyprus get their walking shoes on to help raise funds for Celtic FC Foundation’s 2017 Christmas Appeal.
The 130-mile Trail not only paid tribute to our founding principles but also celebrated the four trebles achieved in Celtic’s history, with key milestones highlighted along the way; via the dedicated website or app.
The initiative has also acknowledged one of Celtic FC Foundation’s core values, improving HEALTH and participants have cumulatively managed to walk almost 7,500 miles in just six weeks
A magnificent total in the region of £10,000 has been raised through their efforts so far, with fundraising still ongoing and these monies will be devoted to our 2017 Christmas Appeal, which reflects the very essence of why our club was set up back in 1887.
We want to help around 300 local families facing poverty, to provide a meal on the table and gifts for the kids. We want to bring the magic of Christmas to those homes. We are also looking to help vulnerable local pensioners to ease the financial burden at a challenging time of year plus a number of other local charities who support those experiencing homelessness or other disadvantage.
Celtic FC Foundation CEO Tony Hamilton, said: “I would like to thank everyone who has taken part in the Hail Hail Trail over the past six weeks.
“This has been a new initiative for Celtic FC Foundation offering supporters across the globe an opportunity to engage with us and yet again the Celtic Family have responded in their numbers.
“Special thanks must go to Marie and Clare Clark, daughter and granddaughter of Celtic legend John Clark, who initially approached us with the idea of introducing a virtual walking fundraising initiative and have since gone on to complete the challenge themselves.
“The funds raised will help us to Share the Spirit of Celtic this Christmas, as we look to support those in our community who are most in need, at an extremely difficult time of year. Thank you for your wonderful support.”
