On Saturday, September 3, a group of local Celtic supporters in Donegal embarked on a wonderful weekend of fundraising activities and Celtic FC Foundation was fortunate to nominated as one of three beneficiaries, together with Scoil Chonaill Bunbeg Autism Unit and Donegal Hospice
Donegal has a long and wonderful history with Celtic Football Club – the resting place of one of our founding fathers and the birthplace of some of our most famous servants.
The ‘Huddle Up Errigal’ event saw supporters climb the breathtaking Mount Errigal and take part in an inaugural Huddle at the summit – and the weather played its part with conditions perfect for the challenge.
On hand to give them the warmest of send offs to the hardy and enthusiastic group were Celtic FC Foundation Ambassador Jay Beatty and CEO Tony Hamilton while Celtic legends, Charlie Gallagher and John Fallon also made the trip across the water..
The Huddle Up Errigal was complemented by a number of associated activities in the local community across the course of the weekend.
Co-organiser, John Joe McGinley, said: “We’ve had a great turnout for the first year and it makes us even more determined to make this an annual event.
“The support from locals has been unbelievable and it’s great to see people travelling to Donegal too to support our three charities, and to have fun while doing it. We certainly brought Celtic back to the hills of Donegal.
“We would like to thank Celtic FC Foundation and Wee Jay in particular for helping us make our inaugural event such a success.”
Tony Hamilton added: “I’m extremely grateful to the organisers and participants who helped raise awareness around what we do in Donegal.
“It was a great event and I would like to thank everyone who made this possible. We look forward to working with the organisers again in future.”
Due to excellent feedback from those who attended, the Committee are looking to host the event again in 2017. To register your interest, please email [email protected]
