A TEAM of pupils from John Paul Academy in Glasgow have signed up to take on the ‘Paradise Steps Challenge’ to raise funds for Celtic FC Foundation.

This will take place at Celtic Park on Friday, May 22, 2015, with the brave participants climbing up and running down all 8,000 or so steps in the stadium. Each has been tasked with raising a minimum of £125 in sponsorship.   

Celtic FC Foundation’s four priorities are to improve Health, promote Equality, encourage Learning and tackle Poverty.

The net proceeds of this event will assist development of our work providing opportunities for local disadvantaged children and young people to take part in positive, healthy activities. 

This epic challenge, not for the feint-hearted, will involve every step in both the lower and upper tiers, across all four stands.  

Celtic FC Foundation CEO, Tony Hamilton, said: “This is an incredible undertaking and we are very grateful to the pupils at John Paul Academy.

“They are outstanding ambassadors for the school and I’m sure all staff, pupils and families are exceptionally proud of them.

“It’s just wonderful that they have selected Celtic FC Foundation to benefit from their magnificent efforts and I think it’s fitting that other children and young people will, as a result, receive assistance through our provision of positive, healthy activities.”

The inspiring group of young people are currently in the middle of a training regime, led by PE teacher, Paul Cassidy.  

He said: “The challenge will be completed by around 25 of our young people. They are part of our S3 Soccer Academy, which is a vocational programme provided during the school timetable to offer pupils the opportunity to excel in Wider Achievement activities.”
