CELTIC FC Foundation has made a donation to the family of Chelsea Somerville to make sure they can experience the holiday they deserve.
Greater Maryhill Foodbank had raised a four-figure sum of cash to send Chelsea and her family on holiday. However, the cash was stolen, along with items of clothing and supermarket vouchers.
Chelsea broke her leg after being hit by a car on Sandbank Street in Glasgow on November 14 last year. Tragically, her friend, 11-year-old Sophie Brannan, died in the incident.
Celtic already has a close connection to the Greater Maryhill Foodbank, making a £5,000 donation in 2013 to the excellent work which was being carried out there.
We are delighted to be able to make this donation directly to the family.
Chelsea’s mother said: “We were absolutely shocked and delighted to receive a call today from Celtic FC Foundation about this donation.
“After we heard about the break-in at the weekend, Chelsea was completely disappointed as she had been really looking forward to the family holiday.
“When she comes home from school today she’ll get a brilliant surprise. From all the family we want to say thank you very much.”
