LAST Thursday, June 23, saw another successful Celtic FC Foundation event as our second annual Golf Day took place at a sun-kissed Renfrew Golf Club.

The tournament drew magnificent support as teams battled it out for the prestigious Celtic FC Foundation Golf Day trophy to raise funds for our acclaimed Ability Counts project.

Operating since 2011, Ability Counts was the first of its kind in Scotland and since then it has gone from strength to strength. It started out as a way to engage children living with Down’s Syndrome and now also comprises project delivery in Autism. It is used to engage with children and young people who may otherwise be excluded.

The day’s proceedings began with a welcome breakfast and registration followed by a mid-morning tee-off. The team of ex-Celts featuring Tom Boyd, Dixie Deans, Stephen McManus and Owen Archdeacon got the tournament underway following a shotgun start at 10am.

After a fierce but friendly contest, Lenzie Bhoys led by Kevin McKinney emerged as the worthy winners of Celtic FC Foundation’s Golf Day trophy.

Following the presentation of awards, attendees enjoyed a fantastic three-course lunch and a Q&A session where the former Celts entertained the crowd with anecdotes from their time at the club.

Attendees left on a high as the event drew to a close in the early evening, and after a hugely enjoyable day all round, Celtic FC Foundation are delighted to announce that a figure in the region of £10K has been raised (following the Golf Day and accompanying eBay auction) for our Ability Counts project.

Commenting on the event, Celtic FC Foundation CEO, Tony Hamilton, said: “Once again, this year’s Golf Day proved to be a truly memorable occasion and I’d like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone, including our team of ex-Celts, who took part in the tournament as well as our eBay auction to raise money for our Ability Counts project.

“I’d also like to compliment Kenny Morrison and the team at Renfrew Golf Club for their warm hospitality. Also, I must mention the hugely significant contribution from our Supporters’ Committee, who continually give up their time to assist us with the planning and delivery of events.”
