Swing when you’re winning and sign up for Foundation’s Golf Day

CELTIC FC Foundation is delighted to announce details of its third annual Golf Day, which will take place at Renfrew Golf Club on Friday, June 16, 2017. Delivered in association with our Supporters’ Committee, the Golf Day has proven to be a hugely successful event, selling out in both 2015 and 2016 and you can see a summary of last year’s event by clicking here...

Demand for the 2017 event is expected to be high once again and golfers are encouraged to book early to avoid disappointment. The beneficiary for the 2017 Golf Day will be Celtic FC Foundation’s award-winning Ability Counts project.

Operating since 2011, this immensely popular project is aimed at helping children and young people who may ordinarily be excluded from mainstream activities and need to be given a chance. The project offers children and young people with Down’s Syndrome the opportunity to develop motor skills and team-working skills, through weekly sessions such as football and dance.

Ability Counts also offers weekly activities for children and young people with Autism, which aim to develop communication, coordination, self-confidence and social skills through sessions such as football, multi-sports, fun games, soft play and swimming. In addition, we’ve just introduced a brand new pilot project aimed at individuals with additional support needs, aged 18+.

Celtic FC Foundation’s 2017 Golf Day will begin with breakfast rolls and registration. There will be a mid-morning tee off and the tournament format will consist of a shotgun start with 21 teams of four players, playing with a Texas Scramble scoring system. On the day, golfers will have the opportunity to win a fantastic £5,000 hole-in-one prize, as well as a host of other great prizes at holes throughout the course.

A specially selected group of former Celts will also take part in the Golf Day, aiming to take the prestigious Celtic FC Foundation Golf Day trophy, won last year by Lenzie Bhoys, who’ll be returning to defend their title. After players have handed in their cards they’ll have the chance to freshen up, before a fantastic sit-down meal.

The 2017 Golf Day winners will then be presented with their awards before the day is capped off with a charity prize draw and auction offering some tremendous prizes, as well as afternoon entertainment. The cost to enter a team of four is £400, with participants also having the opportunity to invite friends and partners for the afternoon lunch and entertainment at a cost of £40 per place.

Speaking about the event, Celtic FC Foundation CEO, Tony Hamilton said: “Last year’s Golf Day proved to be a truly memorable occasion, capped by glorious sunshine, and I’m delighted that we are returning to the wonderfully accommodating and friendly surroundings of Renfrew Golf Club.

“I must also mention the hugely significant contribution from Celtic FC Foundation’s Supporters’ Committee, for their continued involvement in the planning and delivery of this event. With the support of the Celtic family, we can replicate the success of previous Golf Days and contribute further to our acclaimed Ability Counts project.”
