Sisters in California set to take on Hail Hail Trail

IN the lead-up to the club’s 130th Anniversary on November 6, Celtic FC Foundation are calling on supporters throughout the world to join the Hail Hail Trail and walk 130 miles over the course of six weeks for charity.

The Hail Hail Trail is a walking challenge which celebrates our magnificent history and is open to supporters across the globe. Participants can upload their distances and record progress via a dedicated webpage or app.

Among those to have signed up so far are two sisters from California, Heather Caricco and Andrea Mocabee. They spoke to the official Celtic website as they prepare to get walking for the Foundation.

Based in San Francisco and San Jose respectively, Heather and Andrea are keen to grasp the opportunity to raise funds for Celtic FC Foundation, all the way from the Bay Area.

Heather said: “I’ve been a Celtic fan for a number of years now and love the worldwide connections that the club has. Wherever you go you always seem to see someone wearing the Hoops jersey.”

Andrea added: “I became a Celtic fan when my sister and I travelled to Scotland and took a tour of the stadium.  The club was so rich with history and has such an amazing following that it was hard not to become a fan.  I am a newcomer to the Celtic family but I’m truly a proud supporter!”

Speaking of Celtic FC Foundation and the Hail Hail Trail, Heather said:“What really drew me to Celtic FC Foundation was the inclusiveness of the organisation. The focus on Health, Equality, Learning and Poverty, and the Foundation’s aim to help people, both in the community and beyond, are values that are really important to me. The Hail Hail Trail was a great way for us to do our bit.

“I absolutely love physical activity, especially walking.  The fact that the Hail Hail Trail has a 130-mile goal celebrating the club’s anniversary, as well as raising money for the 2017 Christmas Appeal really resonated with me and was something I was really keen to be a part of.

“I plan on clocking up some distances throughout San Francisco. I’ll be hiking and walking with my friends and family around the Bay Area, while taking in some beautiful sites such as the Golden Gate Bridge, Land’s End, Pacifica, and more. I’ll definitely be sending Celtic FC Foundation some photos.”

Andrea added: “It was Heather who told me about the Hail Hail Trail and as soon as I heard about it I thought it would be a really fun way to get more active and raise some money to help Celtic FC Foundation to continue the great work they’re doing.

“I try to take my dog out for lots of long walks to places like Santa Cruz Beach, San Francisco and Lake Tahoe, so that’ll help feed into my three miles a day.  I may also be travelling up to Toronto, Canada so will be looking to get some miles in there too.

“Many of the Foundation’s events take place in Scotland so unfortunately we’re unable to take part but the Hail Hail Trail is a great chance for the Celtic Family to get involved no matter where you are. So we’re really keen to take part and raise as much money as we possibly can.”

Registration is now open and you can sign up HERE. You must be 13 years of age or over on Tuesday, September 26 in order to take part and participants under-18 years of age will need to have consent/approval from their parent or legal guardian.

All funds raised from the Hail Hail Trail will be devoted to our 2017 Christmas Appeal which reflects the very essence of why our club was set up back in 1887. We are looking to assist a host of local families and pensioners facing poverty and hardship and a number of charities who care for those experiencing the torment of homelessness or other disadvantage. Thanks to your help we can ensure that they’ll never walk alone.
