RAB Douglas was as big a fan of Henrik Larsson and Lubo Moravcik as every Celtic fan who watched the two Hoops heroes in their prime. And the former Celtic goalkeeper admitted he had the best view in the house to watch both players.
“I would stand and see Henrik or Lubo or Chris Sutton or someone else create magic,” said Douglas. “It was brilliant to be part of all that and to see it at close quarters.”
Rab Douglas is returning to Paradise for the Henrik’s Heroes v Lubo’s Legends charity match at Celtic Park on Sunday, May 28 (KO: 2pm), and he’s looking forward to running out at Paradise again, as well as getting the chance to see Henrik and Lubo in action.
“These guys were special,” he said. “That can be seen by what that side won. Henrik and Lubo were great players but they were winners too. They were obviously technically excellent, but it takes a lot of work to be that good and they never stinted on the park.”
And Douglas remains modest about his own contribution to the game, admitting how grateful he is for the chances that were given to him over a long career.
“Some guys play for 10-15 years and don’t win a thing,” he said. “I played for Scotland. I won three titles, three Scottish Cups and a League Cup with Celtic. I also played in the UEFA Cup final. For a daft goalie who came into the game late, it’s not bad is it?” he says.
Henrik’s Heroes versus Lubo’s Legends will take place at Celtic Park on Sunday, May 28, 2017, with a 2pm KO.
