Patrick is going the extra mile for Celtic FC Foundation

THE 2015 Great Scottish Run is fast approaching and thousands of runners will flock to Glasgow’s city centre on Sunday, October 4 for one of the most celebrated events in the UK’s running calendar.

Patrick Scott, from Anniesland, is among those signed up to run the half-marathon on behalf of Celtic FC Foundation and the Hoops’ fan spoke to the official website about his involvement and his excitement ahead of the event.

Patrick said: “I’d been looking at the work of foodbanks in the Calton and soup kitchens in the East End of Glasgow and it struck me that Brother Walfrid was doing this work over 127 years ago and it’s shocking that it’s still required to this day.

“I was also inspired by the charity work of Lisa Hague and the words of Tony Hamilton – who spoke so passionately about Celtic FC Foundation at Lisa’s 30th Birthday Bash event – and this gave me the impetus to raise money for the charity.”

As well as committing to a dedicated training schedule, Patrick was also keen to underline the generosity of those around him and the rewarding experience of fundraising for Celtic FC Foundation.

He said: “The training has been short at times! I’ve got on with it though and I’ve done about 75 per cent of it now so hopefully, I’ll be ready for the big day in two weeks time.

“The fundraising aspect has been amazing. My place of work, Portakabin Scotland, has put a substantial amount towards my total.

“Also, my supporters’ club, the Hoops Bar CSC in the Gallowgate, have had a big hand in my fundraising as well as numerous friends and family who have made huge contributions.”

Patrick is no stranger to the Great Scottish Run having completed the event in 2013, and he insisted that matching or bettering his previous effort was an important personal target.

He said: “I did the half-marathon two years ago back in 2013, and my time was two hours and 24 minutes, so I’m looking to beat that.

“However, I’m two stone heavier than I was then so I’ll see how I get on! I promised my wife I’d match two hours and 24 minutes so that’s my aim.”
