SMITHYCROFT Secondary pupil Jade Louden has just returned from a filmmaking internship with a crew lead by renowned film–maker Danny McGrath, whose credits include Kingdom of Heaven, Sherlock Holmes, The Monuments Men and Bridget Jones.
Danny is a regular supporter of Celtic FC Foundation’s education work, visiting a number of schools to teach film-making techniques.
When he committed to work on a short film based on a script written by
Glasgow born Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy, Danny was determined to give pupils from the East End every opportunity to have a role in the production. Jade pitched for a role as Art Department Assistant and came through with flying colours.
Danny said: “Jade has really impressed everyone on the crew with her enthusiasm and commitment and we expect to hear great things about her in the future.
‘But I’d also say that we’ve all really enjoyed having her around and seeing her progress and I’d encourage everyone in the creative industries to include young people and help with their aspirations. That part has been as much fun as making the film really.”
Tony Hamilton, Celtic FC Foundation CEO, added: “The Foundation is delighted to be able to bring these kinds of opportunities to young people.
“The mix of aspiration and opportunity is a powerful thing and it’s great to see it all come together on projects like this.”
