AS the Hoops completed the Double Treble with yesterday’s Scottish Cup final victory over Motherwell, they signed off on what has been another truly historic season.
Following the Scott Brown Testimonial Match today, we look ahead to this Friday, May 25 which will mark the 51st anniversary of Celtic’s most famous victory of them all, when 11 local Bhoys triumphed in Lisbon. Celtic FC Foundation are asking the Celtic family to commemorate the occasion by wearing something green and donating £5 to continue the Lions’ Legacy.
Fans can participate in Celtic FC Foundation’s Green Day by texting CELT07 to 70070 followed by £5 to donate and then tweeting a photo wearing any green item of clothing to @FoundationCFC.
The initiative follows on from the huge success of last year’s Lions’ Legacy campaign, which saw over £2million raised to support projects across the UK and beyond, through a series of events marking the 50th anniversary of the Lisbon triumph.
Proceeds from the Lions’ Legacy campaign are now supporting multiple community based initiatives. These include Dementia Care with several partners who are experts in this field, the building of 67 school kitchens in the developing world in partnership with Mary’s Meals, the development of our Ability Counts project for children, young people and adults with Down’s Syndrome and Autism, delivery of our Breaking Barriers project in East London and provision of support to The Forgotten Irish campaign, in partnership with the Ireland Fund of Great Britain.
Lisbon Lion, John Clark this week gave his backing to the initiative as he donned a Celtic FC Foundation T-shirt at Lennoxtown.
He said: “The Lions’ Legacy campaign last year was absolutely fantastic and the Celtic support showed once again that they’re the greatest in the world.
“This is a really simple and fun way for people to get involved and to help continue the great work which has been ongoing, through the monies raised around the 50th anniversary.
“I know the Celtic fans will show their support, as they always do, and make the Foundation’s first ever Green Day an event to remember.”
Please get behind Celtic FC Foundation’s Green Day on Friday, May 25 and help ensure the continuation and development of our Lions’ Legacy initiatives, in honour of Jock Stein and his Lisbon Lions.
