Feed those in need

CELTIC FC FOUNDATION€™S Christmas Appeal series now looks at one of the most pressing and urgent issues facing our society – feeding the impoverished.

Loaves and Fishes are a Glasgow-based charity that provide hot meals for the homeless and those ravaged by poverty.

They also distribute food parcels, clothes and toiletries for struggling families as well as offering a kind, warm and comfortable atmosphere for those in need of support.

Denis Curran, Chairman of Loaves and Fishes, said: €œLoaves and Fishes are a voluntary charity dependent on people€™s good will. We feed upwards of 40 people on Monday and Thursday evenings at Oasis Cafe with a free two-course meal at a cost of £7.50 per head.

€œWe also run a foodbank from our unit in East Kilbride. Last Christmas, we gave out over 1,000 food hampers. I would like to thank everyone for their generosity, as without their help, families would have no food.€

Long-term supporter of Loaves and Fishes, Russell Kyle of PMPR Excellence, added: €œI have worked with Denis Curran and his Loaves and Fishes charity many times over the years. Denis and his wife Cathy devote almost every waking hour to Loaves and Fishes.

€œThey are still involved in helping the homeless and now run a foodbank, distributing help to families and individuals who are struggling to put meals on the table. The charity survives with donations and gets no Government aid whatsoever.

€œDenis recently addressed a Scottish Parliamentary delegation and talked with warmth, passion and a humanity that moved some to tears on the day.

€œAt present he is putting together food parcels for Christmas for the needy and is including toy shop vouchers for children in his aid boxes.€

Please help us brighten up lives this Christmas.
