Famine Memorial Shirt Auction Live Now

To once again recognise the tragedy of the Great Hunger, Celtic wore the National Famine Memorial Day logo on the Hoops when they took to the field against Hibernian on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Celtic Park.

One million people died in the tragedy between 1846 and 1850 and many more suffered in the most horrendous circumstances. Saturday’s match coincided with the annual commemoration of the Famine, which this year took place in Ballingarry, County Tipperary.

Unquestionably, the Great Hunger was a transforming event in Ireland, which changed the demographic and cultural landscape forever. Indeed, there is nothing else in the history of the Irish people that can be likened to the Great Hunger, either for its immediate impact, or its legacy of emigration, cultural loss and decline of the Irish language.

Celtic FC Foundation are delighted to confirm that 12 of these match issue shirts – to be signed by each player – are now being auctioned, providing supporters with the opportunity to own a wonderful collectors’ item.

The shirts can be accessed HERE

– and the auction will close at around 7pm on Sunday, October 8, 2017 (bidders should check individual items for exact end times).

Funds raised will help support the work of Celtic FC Foundation as we strive to honour the charitable principles and heritage of Celtic Football Club.

We aim to respond to the needs of disadvantaged children, young people and adults in our local communities to improve Health, promote Equality, encourage Learning and tackle Poverty.
