Celtic FC Foundation Appeal beneficiary: St Roch’s FC Foundation

Christmas appeal

AS we continue our spotlight series on the organisations which will receive our support through this year’s Christmas Appeal, we now take a closer look at the work of St Roch’s FC Foundation.

St Roch’s Football Club is a well-known institution which has historical ties to Celtic Football Club. Commonly known as ‘The Candy Rock’, the Junior side are based in Glasgow’s North East and play their home matches at Jimmy McGrory Park, named after the Garngad’s side’s most celebrated figure and Celtic’s all-time top scorer.

St Roch’s FC Foundation is the club’s charitable arm and, through their volunteers, they aim to engage and support those within their local community through the provision of a number of free services.

Speaking of the work of St Roch’s FC Foundation, committee member, Stephen Mullen, said: “The demographics of our community are constantly highlighted as being one of the most deprived areas of Glasgow. We try to alleviate some of these costs for families by putting on services that are of a real benefit to them.”

Support received through Celtic FC Foundation’s 2018 Christmas Appeal, will allow St Roch’s FC Foundation to host Christmas lunches for local pensioners, as well those who are affected by homelessness.

Stephen said: “We will be hosting our festive fish supper days on December 27 and 28. The first lunch will be provided for those who are affected by homelessness and the second will be for local pensioners. In order to be able to do this, we rely on the generosity of Celtic FC Foundation to assist us in our goals.

“We at St Roch’s FC Foundation are always grateful for the continued support we receive from Celtic FC Foundation, it is magnificent.”

St Roch’s FC Foundation joins Glasgow East Women’s Aid and The Invisibles as the 2018 Christmas Appeal beneficiaries to have been announced thus far.

Through our appeal, we’re aiming to help local families and pensioners who face poverty and hardship and a number of charities who care for those experiencing the torment of homelessness or other disadvantage.
