Celtic FC Foundation and Danny McGrain slide to success

CELTIC FC Foundation’s second ‘Zip Slide in Paradise’ event took place at Celtic Park on Saturday and it was another huge success. Funds are still being collected but, to date, a magnificent total in the region of £20,000 has already been raised.

Not famed for our good luck with the weather when it comes to outdoor events, Saturday didn’t disappoint! Spring was nowhere to be seen as wind and heavy rain welcomed in excess of 100 hardy participants.

However, it failed to dampen their spirits, with each ‘sliding’ diagonally from East to West, leaving from the very top corner of the North Stand seating deck, at the Lisbon Lions stand side and gliding all the way across to the lower corner of the Jock Stein stand at the south west corner.

They came from near and far, with some participants travelling from areas such as Ayr, Portmahomack, Bathgate, Carnoustie, Portlethen, Oban, Newry, Glenrothes and North Shields.

The friends and family members who gave up their time to turn up and support our participants added a wonderful dimension to the day as they created a fantastic atmosphere which was fitting of our founding principles.

There was one famous face taking part on Saturday – Celtic legend Danny McGrain. The 66-year-old supports the Foundation on a regular basis and we are very grateful for all he does. And there’s still time to get behind Danny and support his fundraising challenge HERE

Celtic FC Foundation and our own Supporters’ Committee were also represented with one member of Foundation staff and two members of the Committee – Paul Brennan and Iain McGovern (and also Brian Gilmour’s lovely wife who stood in for him at the last minute) – taking part.

Special thanks must go to Davie McLaughlin and Aidan Duffy who gave up their time on a wet and windy Saturday to support Celtic FC Foundation and our participants.

Celtic FC Foundation’s four priorities are to improve Health, promote Equality, encourage Learning and tackle Poverty.

The net proceeds of this event will assist development of our work providing opportunities for local disadvantaged children and young people to take part in positive, healthy activities.

Your support will make a genuine difference to the lives of the vulnerable youngsters we work with.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
