Thank You – Football for Good Fund reaches £1.5m milestone

Since March 2020, Celtic FC Foundation have set out to help those most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic under the banner of the Football for Good Fund (FFGF).

And today, eighteen months later, we are delighted to announce that the FFGF has reached a mammoth milestone of £1.5MILLION, with the Foundation investing another £250K into the emergency response initiative.

Reaching this milestone wouldn’t have been possible without the magnificent generosity of the Celtic Family, and everyone here at Celtic FC Foundation would like to sincerely thank you for helping us to make a difference.

The Foundation will work alongside our existing partners to deliver additional support to those most in need in our local communities and further afield as we start to come out the other side of the COVID-19 pandemic.

We will continue to focus our efforts on tackling three key issues – assisting those who are facing food and fuel poverty, and providing mental health support to those who need it most in Scotland, Ireland, the wider UK, and overseas.

It has been a period of hardship and repeated uncertainty for the most vulnerable in our society, and this will likely continue for many people as we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic due to rising costs, including fuel, and the end of a number of key support schemes.

The Foundation is committed to continuing to make a difference and in summary, has supported:

Thanks to the generosity of those who donated to the FFGF, and after approval from the Foundation’s Board of Trustees, the intention is to allocate the additional £250K within the next few months as we start to return to our regular schedule of projects and initiatives.

Celtic FC Foundation Chief Executive, Tony Hamilton, said: “We’re all looking forward to getting our lives back to where we were pre-pandemic. However, that’s not an instant fix for any of us, and the legacy of what we’ve all endured will take much longer to recover from.

“I’m delighted we’re in a position to continue with our Football For Good Fund for the remainder of 2021 in the first instance. I’m very grateful to everyone who has facilitated this, including Celtic supporters in every corner of the globe, our corporate and institutional funders, the Foundation’s Trustees, and everyone at the football club who has offered support.

“The next few months will see real hardship for many families and individuals within our communities. The fact that additional benefit support through COVID is ending, coupled with the rising costs of domestic fuel prices will have a major impact and it’s important that we continue to address these issues as best we can.”
