Kazakhstani supporter raising funds for Foundation while in Scotland

Supporter John Karshalov from Kazakhstan has been following Celtic Football Club for the past 15 years. Watching the magical atmosphere of the European nights in Paradise – from afar in his home town of Almaty – John fell in love with the Club and the fans.

He made it his mission to take in a match at Celtic Park and experience the atmosphere first hand and John is now in Scotland for the very first time.

Having been enchanted by the charitable heritage of the Club and the role of Celtic FC Foundation, he plans to run the Edinburgh Men’s 10K and (all going well) climb Ben Nevis, to raise funds for the Foundation, during his visit.

John said: “Throughout my years of following Celtic, I have watched the work of the Foundation and I decided that during my time in Glasgow I wanted to show my support. This Club was built to help those in need and that’s exactly what the Foundation does today.”

John will be attending his first ever game at Paradise against Ferencvárosi TC this afternoon, after waiting a long 15 years. He added: “I could never afford to get to Scotland to a home game but, through the great help of my friends, I will now be able to take this opportunity while doing something positive for charity.”

Our fans are famous throughout the world for their passion and commitment and John has already managed to attend six away games, including three in his home country.

John added: “I have been so lucky that Celtic have played in Kazakhstan and that has spurred me on to get to Scotland and enjoy every day I spend here. I will be attending at least three games and have already been really impressed by our amazing Women’s team and I am hoping to also see them again before I leave.”

John has set himself a fundraising target of £500 and is already beyond the halfway mark. The Edinburgh Men’s 10K takes place on Sunday, October 24 and John plans to do his Ben Nevis hike the week after.

We are so grateful for his support and look forward to welcoming him to Paradise.
