Foundation and GNE Foodbank to provide food parcels in Glasgow

Celtic FC Foundation, in partnership with Glasgow North-East Foodbank, is today proud to announce the launch of a free self-referral service providing food parcels for people living in Glasgow affected by the current Coronavirus COVID-19 crisis.

A total of £10,000 has been allocated to the initiative from the Football for Good Fund, which currently sits at £200,000. Food parcels will be delivered straight to recipients’ homes via Glasgow Taxis.

The aim is to support those financially impacted by COVID-19 and not just self-isolating, in order to ensure we reach those who wouldn’t normally have a referral to a Foodbank, but urgently need food.

This includes, but is not limited to people who have recently lost employment, are working on reduced hours ,or are currently applying for a new benefit claim.

Tony Hamilton, Celtic FC Foundation Chief Executive, said: “This is possible through a private donation and we’re very grateful that we are in a position to add this initiative to the Football For Good Fund.

“Our partnership with the Glasgow North East Foodbank goes back a long way and together we can get to the right people quickly.

“Our sincere thanks to everyone who has helped us in the past couple of weeks – the Celtic support have once again stood up when it has mattered. Everyone at Celtic FC Foundation hopes this latest initiative eases the burden for affected families.”

Linda Stuart, Project Manager at Glasgow North East Foodbank, added: “We are delighted to again be working in partnership with Celtic FC Foundation through the Football for Good Fund.

“This new project will allow us to help people who are financially affected by the COVID-19 crisis. This project is a pathway for people who would not normally access a Foodbank to do so through simple self-referral. Together, we can make a difference by helping relieve food poverty.”

The new self-referral service is available for all Glasgow residents from Tuesday, April 14, 2020 at 10am. If you think you might be eligible please contact us on either 0141 551 4354 or 0141 551 4340 and we will respond to you as soon as we possibly can.
