Football for Good Fund Beneficiary: FARE Scotland

AS we continue to support those most in need in our communities, we turn our focus to another of the charity partners who will benefit through Celtic FC Foundation’s Football for Good Fund – FARE Scotland.

FARE, which stands for ‘Family Action in Rogerfield and Easterhouse’, is a social enterprise working to improve the lives of children and families living in the East End of Glasgow and beyond.

The organisation provides a number of key services including youth clubs, parental support groups and activities for the elderly.

CEO at Fare Scotland, Jimmy Wilson spoke about what the organisation is doing throughout the current COVID-19 crisis and expressed his thanks for the support received through the Football for Good Fund.

He said: “We currently have two buildings open where volunteers have been packing food hampers, alongside staff working from home answering calls.

“So far we’ve distributed approximately 60-70,000 meals in the East End of Glasgow and beyond. We’re getting calls from places as far out as Falkirk, Stirling, Edinburgh, Greenock, Inverclyde and Paisley.

“From what our volunteers are seeing on the ground, the crisis is starting to take a massive toll on the mental health of young people, families and adults. These people are isolated, sometimes on their own.

“For example, there’s a young boy we support with learning difficulties whose mum has just passed away within the last month. He doesn’t realise what’s happening in the world, and his mum is no longer there to help or support him.

“There are also people who were living just above or on the breadline prior to COVID-19 and they are losing their jobs and struggling to pay their bills.

“Celtic FC Foundation were one of the first organisations to reach out to us. Most of our hampers cost £15 per head, so a donation of £10k helps massively. We really can’t thank Celtic FC Foundation enough for their incredible generosity.”
