Celtic FC Foundation Supporters’ Committee makes summer signings

In 2012, to mark the 125th anniversary of Celtic’s formation, a group of likeminded fans joined forces with Celtic’s officialcharitable arm, to raise funds through the 1254125 campaign.

Over the past eight years, a number of the supporters who were integral to this campaign have formed Celtic FC Foundation’s official Supporters’ Committee. Iain McGovern, Brian Gilmour, David Barrett, Davie McLaughlin, Jen Livingston, Jim McGinley, Mark Cameron and Paul Brennanhave all played a vital role in Celtic FC Foundation’s success in recent times.

As part of the Committee, each and every one of these fantastic people has supported the Foundation’s efforts, by either volunteering or taking part in our various events, promoting our work or raising funds through their own initiatives. We would like to express our great thanks to each of the Committee for their continued backing over the years.

As we continue to experience a period of great uncertainty, many of Celtic FC Foundation’s traditional fundraising avenues have simply become impossible and the efforts of our Supporters’ Committee, have become more important now than ever.

We are therefore delighted to announce that we have expanded the membership, by adding some fantastic new recruits. Each of our new Committee members have already provided incredible support to the Foundation in the past and we are thrilled that they’ve offered to get even more involved going forward.

Our new recruits; Dannika Drain, Julie Duncan, Keith McGinty, Lisa Miller, Malcolm Miller, Owen Mullen and Paul Lamb each bring with them a passion for the work of the Foundation and their valued contributions will be crucial in supporting our future efforts.

The group’s primary objective over the coming months will be to create a host of Supporters’ Committee led fundraising events and initiatives, which will complement Celtic FC Foundation’s fundraising activities. We can’t wait to see what the group come up with and fans should keep an eye out for further details coming soon.

Chair of the Committee, Iain McGovern, said: “Celtic FC Foundation is an incredible success story and one that is at the heart of everything that is good about Celtic. The work that the Foundation does is remarkable and the examples of the difference it makes are endless. Unfortunately, particularly during these times, demands on resources have never been greater but Celtic FC Foundation has really stepped up to provide support to those most in need.

“As a Supporters’ Committee, our role is an important one. In the past we have supported fundraising events such as badge days, bucket collections and alike by volunteering and helping to co-ordinate on the day but the challenges at the moment are different. Part of the Committee’s role as we move forward will be to come up with ideas which we can deliver, to help fill the fundraising gaps and continue to support the Foundation’s incredible work.

“I am absolutely delighted to welcome all of our new Committee members. This is a very challenging time for so many and we understand how busy people’s lives are at the moment. It is therefore, hugely appreciated that each of these fantastic people have been willing to give up even more of their time to support the Foundation. I’d like to thank all of my fellow Committee members for their continued commitment.

“We’ve had some great virtual meetings thus far, with a range of brilliant ideas discussed and we look forward to sharing details of a few events and initiatives with the wider Celtic support in the near future.”

The Football for Good Fund was launched in March and it has now risen to over £900K to help provide food and essentials to those most in need. Throughout the coming months, we aim to continue to ensure that food parcels, basic necessities, hot meals and other critical interventions are available to the growing number of people affected by the ruthlessness of COVID-19.

But we can’t do it alone.
