AS we continue our 2019 Christmas Appeal, we turn our focus to another of the charity partners who will benefit through this year’s appeal, Elpis Centre.
Based in the Ruchill area of Glasgow, Elpis Centre provides accommodation for young women, aged between 16 to 25 years-old, who have found themselves facing homelessness or other disadvantage.
Elpis Centre’s main facility, which can host up to nine service users at any one time, is manned 24-hours a day, all year round, by professionally qualified and fully vetted staff. Elpis operates a further nine scatter flats located within the surrounding streets, providing young women with a safe environment, where they can develop the skills required, to progress towards a fully independent life.
Donations received through Celtic FC Foundation’s Christmas Appeal in the past have allowed Elpis to provide its service users with a Christmas meal, gifts and festive outings, to ensure that Christmas is a special time of year for those living at the Centre.
Trips throughout the year, to attractions such as M&Ds and Blair Drummond Safari Park have also been possible thanks to our support.
Assistant Manager, Jackie Palmer, spoke of Elpis Centre’s gratitude and the importance of the support received. She said: “Elpis Centre is a small charitable organisation and it greatly appreciates any donations received. The support received in the past has really enhanced the experiences and memories of the young women who have stayed at the facility.
“Any donation received this year will allow Elpis to continue to help the young women throughout the year, but especially at Christmas time. This can be a very difficult time for some of the young women, but Elpis Centre aims to ensure that they feel included and involved over the festive period.
“Elpis Centre would like to thank Celtic FC Foundation for the continued support. It makes a huge difference to the lives of all of the young women here.”
Elpis Centre becomes the fifth beneficiary of this year’s Appeal to be confirmed, following on from Loaves and Fishes, The Invisibles, Glasgow East Women’s Aid and St Roch’s FC Foundation.
Our Appeal aims to honour the founding principles set out when the Club was formed back in 1887, by continuing to help those in our community, who are most in need. We want to help hundreds of local families facing poverty, by giving them the kind of Christmas we all take for granted.
We also want to support pensioners on our doorstep and help out local charities. We can make a massive difference to the lives of children, the homeless, refugees and those living in refuge or facing other challenges.
Christmas is a time to give and share. And the Glasgow Celtic will be there.
