RENFREW Golf Club hosted another hugely successful Celtic FC Foundation Golf Day last Friday, with an incredible total in the region of £25,000 raised in support of our Ability Counts projects.
Our fifth annual Golf Day was sponsored this year by Frux Private Bank, a boutique private banking operation who provide first-class financial services to clients worldwide, focusing on a tailored service with a personal touch.
As part of the sponsorship package, Frux Private Bank not only donated a wonderful prize for this year’s winning team – the opportunity to take part in the Frux Golf World Tour Final, during an all-expenses paid trip to Mallorca in May 2020 – but they also generously nominated our Ability Counts projects to benefit from funds raised at their recent showpiece event on the island.
Once again, it was a sell-out event, with 23 teams taking part. Among them as always, was a team of former Celts, as Simon Donnelly, Willie McStay and Owen Archdeacon took to the course, aiming to win the coveted Golf Day trophy. They were also joined by Tom Boyd, John Fallon and Frank McAvennie, who all took part, among other Golf Day teams.
The former Celts got the tournament underway at the 10th hole, with a shotgun tee-off and guests were treated to a fine day’s golf, as the sun shone on the Renfrew course, for the most part.
After a well-fought contest, it was the team of former Celts who eventually came out on top and claimed the Golf Day trophy. However, in an extremely kind gesture, they opted to gift the winners’ prize to the next best placed team, Tynemouth’s Green and White.
Following a fantastic three-course lunch, guests enjoyed hearing from a few of the former Hoops players during a Q&A, before the day was rounded off with an auction and prize draw.
Funds raised will support our Ability Counts projects, which are grounded on a simple model of inclusivity, companionship and most importantly, fun.
Through physical activity, sport and team-based play, our sessions allow participants a sense of freedom, affording them opportunities to express their feelings in a relaxed, comfortable environment. We currently host projects in Glasgow, Dublin and Donegal.
Celtic FC Foundation Chief Executive, Tony Hamilton, said: “Friday saw yet another wonderful Celtic FC Foundation Golf Day event and I would like to thank all of the teams who took part, including the former Celts.
“This has been our fifth annual Golf Day and the event continues to grow each year.
“Our Sponsors, Frux Private Bank, have been truly tremendous and we cannot thank them enough for their support.
“I must also extend our thanks to everyone at Renfrew Golf Club for all of their efforts, as well as to our Celtic FC Foundation Supporters’ Committee, who as always, played such an important role in this event.”
