Emilio Izaguirre will make an emotional return to Paradise next month when he takes part in the Celtic FC Foundation Legends match on Sunday May 26.
It will be the Honduran’s first trip back to Glasgow since he left the club in 2019, and he is looking forward to pulling on the green and white Hoops again and running out in front of the Celtic supporters.
“It is so special,” Emilio explained. “I would love to travel tomorrow to Celtic Park if I could! I remember all my games for Celtic and all the years I was in Glasgow and, for me, Celtic Park is love. And I’m so happy to play this Legends game. It will be very emotional for me.
“This will be my first time back in Glasgow. It’s exciting and my whole family want to come too – my wife, my children, my father, my brothers – everyone.
“Both of my children say that their nationality is Scottish! My daughter was born in Glasgow and any time she is asked, she says she is Scottish. My son says the same because we all loved our time in Scotland.
“For us, Celtic is a blessing, and most of the games I played and the trophies I won were with Celtic, so it will always be very special for me and I’m so happy to be going back.
“When I played last the Legends game at Anfield last year, it was great, but I still missed Celtic Park so I’m excited to be coming back on May 26.”
The Celtic FC Foundation Legends match on Sunday, May 26 is sponsored by Dafabet and kicks off at 2pm.
It will bring together a host of club greats for both Celtic and Borussia Dortmund in what promises to be a fantastic occasion at Paradise.
And for Emilio Izaguirre, being able to play his part in raising money for the Foundation is an important part of why he’s taking part in this game.
“When I was at the club, Celtic FC Foundation always helped me for the children here in Honduras, giving me things for them,” he explained, “and for me, I have a lot of respect for the Foundation and what they do.
“So I’m happy to help them by playing in this game because what they do is so important. Celtic is in my heart – the fans, the staff, the players and I’m always happy to do anything to help Celtic.”

SUPPORTING CELTIC FC FOUNDATION
Funds raised through the match will focus on feeding people in need of support, to reflect the heritage of the club and respond to the current cost of living crisis, which is overwhelming so many families and individuals.
This will include continuation and development of Celtic FC Foundation’s Paradise Pit Stop project at Celtic Park. In addition, we will look to secure new locations for food provision with local partners in Inverclyde and Lanarkshire, plus London and Ireland to complement our current delivery of key projects in those areas.
With Scott Brown set to captain the side, we’re delighted to confirm that a donation will also be made to Dundee Cancer Centre at Ninewells Hospital, in memory of his sister Fiona, who sadly passed away in 2008 aged just 21
