Gordon Strachan signed Scott Brown from Hibernian in 2007. And what a moment in the club’s history, it turned out to be.
The former Celtic manager is the first special guest to be announced for the unique event planned for Thursday, May 18 – A Night With Scott Brown and Mikael Lustig – which is being held at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow.
Following an illustrious playing career at both club and international level, followed by managerial spells at Coventry City and Southampton, Gordon Strachan became Celtic manager on June 1, 2005 and remained with us for four years. During that period, he led the club to three SPL titles, one Scottish Cup, two League Cups and twice reached the knock-out stages of the Champions League.
Few, if any, would have anticipated back in 2007 the remarkable impact Scott Brown, would have at the club over an incredible 14-year period but Gordon knew he had captured not only a special footballing talent, but an inspirational leader.
It’s a night that the former Celtic captain is looking forward to, giving him the opportunity to say a proper goodbye to the Celtic fans who backed him throughout his trophy-laden spell at the club and Gordon Strachan is both honoured and excited to be joining Scott and Mikael on the night.
He said: “I think we spent £4m to bring Broony to Celtic from Hibs and that’s probably as good a £4m as the club has spent.
“You always get the good people, guys who play their part and who want to get better.
“And then, every now and then, you get the gem. The gem is a guy who can make people around him great players. That is a gift.
“Scott has the ability to make the people around him great. I don’t know how many medals were won over his time at the club by how many people. But I do know, a lot of it was down to him.
“I’m looking forward to a very special night on May 18 with two Celtic legends in Scott and Mikael, in the company of the best supporters in the world.”
‘A Night with Scott Brown and Mikael Lustig’, proudly presented by Shaun Ennis, is at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro on Thursday, May 18, 2023. Net proceeds from the event will be donated to Celtic FC Foundation.
