A group of 16 brave Celtic FC Foundation supporters will today embark on our first ever Arctic Trek, as they set off for Rovaniemi in Finland.
The Trek had originally been scheduled to take place in January 2021 but the impact of the COVID pandemic unfortunately led to two postponements. But the participants have been patiently waiting and are now raring to go.
Tomorrow the group – which includes Celtic legend and Club Ambassador, Tom Boyd plus two Foundation Trustees and one member of staff – will spend the day acclimatising in Rovaniemi and taking in a detailed briefing session to ensure that everyone stays safe on trail.
Then on Friday, led by an experienced trekking team, they will begin their grueling three-day adventure into the Arctic Circle. Day 1 will see the group follow a frozen river before descending down towards a frozen lake, walking approximately 28km, before setting up camp for the night, with tents and sleeping bags for protection against the elements.
Day 2 will see our trekkers embark on a 22km stretch of glorious white wilderness, as they trail through forests and, after another night’s rest under the stars, they will then set off on Day 3 for the final 15km, to complete the challenge of a lifetime.
The group have so far raised a phenomenal net total in the region of £57K, with fundraising still ongoing. If you’d like to support their efforts, you can make a donation HERE
We thank each and every one of these wonderful supporters for their incredible dedication to Celtic FC Foundation and wish them all the very best, on what promises to be a truly unique experience.
