Celtic FC Foundation Christmas Party for local schoolchildren

CELTIC FC Foundation’s 2017 Christmas Appeal was in full swing at Celtic Park on Friday as we hosted a party for 205 Primary 5 children from five schools in the East End of Glasgow – St Anne’s, Quarrybrae, Dalmarnock, St Denis’ and Haghill Park. This was the first of two parties we’ll host before Christmas for children in Glasgow.

The event was held courtesy of a very generous private donor and the kids were treated to a special lunch, a game of pass the parcel, a dance session, tattoo artist and a disco.

There were also a couple of special visitors in the shape of Hoopy the Huddle Hound and Santa Claus, who delivered a toy to each child, thanks to a toy drive being led by James Mortimer.

Celtic FC Foundation’s Christmas Appeal aims to follow in the footsteps of Brother Walfrid and help those on our doorstep who need it most

We want to help around 300 local families facing poverty, to provide a meal on the table and gifts for the kids. We want to bring the magic of Christmas to those homes. We are also looking to help vulnerable local pensioners to ease the financial burden at a challenging time of year plus a number of other local charities who support those experiencing homelessness or other disadvantage.

A total of 14 charity partners have been confirmed so far, including the Wayside Club, Loaves and Fishes, The Invisibles, Salvation Army Parkhead, Glasgow City Mission, the Scottish Refugee Council, the Elpis Centre, Simon Community Scotland, Refuweegee, Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, the St Roch’s Foundation, Glasgow Night Shelter and two London-based beneficiaries, St Anne’s Primary School and the Cardinal Hume Centre.

Celtic FC Foundation Chief Executive, Tony Hamilton, said: “This is always one of our favourite and loudest events of the year!

“The children had a wonderful day and perfectly illustrated the magic of Christmas.

“The East End of Glasgow sits at the very heart of our Christmas Appeal and it was an honour to welcome the P5s to Paradise.

“The party was delivered due to the generosity of one donor and we thank him for making 205 youngsters very happy today.”
